Criteria for Assessment of Assignments

There are three assignments, and each submission will be graded. The first and second assignments each carry 30% of the assessment for the subject; the third carries 40%.

The criteria used in assessment will be that students:

  1. have attended to the ideas of others (from the monographs, papers, other course materials, discussion with colleagues, other students and tutors, journal articles, etc.), and related these to the overall aims of the subject, and to classroom practice.

  2. have an adequate knowledge of the literature which addresses theories about teaching mathematics through a problem-posing and problem-solving approach.

  3. are aware of methods of implementing active problem-solving approaches into mathematics classrooms.

  4. can write reports in clear, simple English, and present reports in strict APA format.

  5. have related the notion of "teaching mathematics through a problem-posing and problem-solving approach" to the wider issue of curriculum design.
