- If you have a current JAVA-enabled browser (preferably Internet Explorer 5+) then you should see what this new computer language can mean for live mathematics on the web.
Choose between two exciting examples of online dynamic geometry:
- Fast and powerful CabriJava from the creators of Cabri-Geometry
- You must have a look at the work David Joyce is doing with JAVA and Geometry: he is putting all of Euclid's elements on the web in dynamic geometry form. Have a play with his Euler Line worksheet. Even create youre own live Geometry! Amazing and FREE!
Complex numbers and Vector Arithmetic come alive with JAVA!
Or try Weiguang Huang's JAVA graph plotter and equation solver, VisualMath.
There are also Java applets to support Statistics: Histograms, T-distribution, binomial distribution, confidence intervals, regression and modelling are just some of the applets available.

- For a different flavour of JAVA, you should also look at JavaScript, a programming language built into Netscape for which the code is written directly into the htm page to be interpreted by the browser you use. This has a particular advantage: unlike most Java pages you do not have to be online to use the program. This means that schools, for example, can run mathematics software on any computer that has Netscape at any time!
Why not explore the simple loan calculator (borrowed from David Trembath, who in turn borrowed it from someone else!), or practise your long multiplication? Solve Quadratic Equations, simultaneous equations or work with matrices?
These provide nice examples of the potential of JavaScript as a mathematical tool.
